Activity Description:

Our Mixed Media Studio class is designed for older youth ages 9 –12 who are ready to explore art more deeply, creatively, and intentionally. This six week program focuses on skill development, creative exploration, and personal expression through a wide range of mixed-media techniques. Students will work with advanced combinations of painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, fibers, printmaking elements, and found materials, learning how to plan, layer, and refine their artwork. Lessons introduce concepts such as composition, symbolism, mixed-media layering, texture, and visual storytelling. Projects encourage students to: Develop their own artistic ideas and concepts Experiment with materials in thoughtful ways Build technical skills while maintaining creative freedom Express emotions, stories, and perspectives through art This class balances structure with independence, allowing students to take creative risks, revise their work, and develop confidence in their artistic voice. Group discussions and gentle critiques help students learn how to reflect on their work and appreciate the creative process. Mixed Media Studio is perfect for tweens who love art, want to grow their skills, and are excited to explore more complex projects in a welcoming, inspiring studio environment.
